ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover
In January 2011, EMS provided 24/7 on-site coverage when the producers of Extreme Home Makeover chose to build a new home for a Virginia Beach family.
Boat/Propeller Call
In June 2011, EMS handled what has been labeled one of the most difficult EMS rescue calls in the history of Virginia Beach.
Santa-on-the-Air 2011
In its 8th year, this award winning program expanded with the addition of Norfolk’s Police and Fire/Rescue Departments.

Our members assisted with the closing of Sentara Virginia Beach General’s Labor & Delivery Unit by transporting new mothers and babies to the new Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.
Awards and Appointments
Recognized by the regional EMS council, Tom Harp received the Bruce W. Edwards Outstanding EMS Administrator Award, Division Chief Bruce Nedelka received the R.C. Dailey Award for Excellence in EMS and the Virginia Beach Emergency Response System received the award for Call of the Year.
Cardiac Arrest Survival
In 2011 49% of all cardiac arrest patients were converted and discharged from the hospital!
